Villa Kolam is a bright contemporary addition that centres around a tranquil pond. Playing on the owners’ Malay heritage, ‘Kolam’ means pond, while ‘Villa’ is a nod to the traditional villa at the front of the property.

Works to the existing character home included new black oak matte flooring to the hallway that is carried through the addition, ceiling repairs, including replacing ornate cornices, replacement of many of the old timber sash windows, a full internal and external repaint, and renovation works to the main bathroom.

The addition separates into two wings, separated by the pond. This calming water feature is a hero in the space, visible both in the open plan kitchen and living space, and the bedroom suite opposite. Lorde White marble makes a statement throughout the kitchen and via custom joinery in the living room. The space opens out to an outdoor kitchen and alfresco area via architectural white stacking doors. Timber battens on the alfresco soffit are another feature, handcrafted by our in-house carpenters, and fitted with down lights.

The eastern wing of the home features a master bedroom suite, walk-in robe and ensuite. The suite incorporates an office space, opening out onto the elevated tiled patio via architectural white aluminium sliding doors. Entry to the ensuite comes via a concealed push-to-open door in the walk-in-robe. The elegant and light-filled ensuite within features urban plain white subway tiles to the walls. The same marble is carried through the ensuite via the vanity top, splash back and shower nib wall. The space also features a white freestanding bath and a freestanding shower. Brushed nickel sanitary ware makes an understated statement throughout, while under-screed electric underfloor heating is a luxurious touch.
