Designed by RAD Studio, the brief was to reconfigure the lower storey of this red brick Springfield home to create an open plan footprint and create a more light-filled kitchen.
A new living room and gallery hallway, reconfiguration of the kitchen, enlarging of the laundry and renovating the bathroom, did away with a rabbit warren of smaller rooms and created a home more suited to contemporary living and entertaining.
Extensive structural works were undertaken, including the removal of several masonry walls, to create expansive openings for large sash window suites, skylights and bifold doors that not only streamed light into the kitchen and new living space but also allowed for a new alfresco zone for entertaining adjacent to the pool.
Ceilings to the new living room were pulled down, necessitating careful removal of an asbestos ceiling to the garage and living room. Ceiling joists were cut to install skylights, and it was decided in collaboration with the owners to leave the old trusses exposed to create an even airier space. These trusses were meticulously refurbished and the ceiling was lined with timber matchboard cladding.
The colour palette, materials and details within each new space, such as the Tasmanian oak double herringbone flooring from Boral carried through the gallery hallway and the custom fluted cladding both internally and externally, were carefully chosen to create an elevated Hamptons feel and resulted in a beautiful contemporary interpretation of the traditional character elements of this home.

"We were very fortunate to be referred to Craig Linke along with his subsequent referral to Chris Rowlands from RAD Studios, to assist us with our recent home renovation project. Our brief was complex, however, Craig and Chris worked with us as a team to develop an exciting, contemporary and easy living solution.
