    George

The brief for our George project was to create a light-filled two-storey addition that increased the footprint of the home, adding two bedrooms with ensuites and a library/sitting room, as well as renovating the kitchen, living and dining spaces.

The architect envisioned the addition to the heritage home would take the form of a contemporary cube. The perforated steel window screens were affixed via steel frames that were carefully connected to the framework of the external walls. Designed to diffuse light throughout the day, at night they also create the effect of a glowing lantern, in keeping with the architect’s vision. It is complemented by feature wall cladding to the exterior that carefully wrapped and followed the eave underneath.

Renovation works to the existing home saw the tired 1980s kitchen removed and replaced with a new kitchen featuring a Dekton benchtop and custom joinery. Prestige Oak flooring flows from the kitchen through the renovated living and dining areas, and to the void/ stairwell space. The living/ dining space also underwent a substantial update via new downlights, custom feature lighting, bespoke joinery, and fresh painting throughout.

The large format glass windows in the void are a hero in the space. The double glazed aluminium framed windows allow light to flood the space, diffused by the large trees outside. The minimalist matte black steel staircase with matching steel handrails was handcrafted and in-filled with solid Victorian ash stair treads, stained to match the timber floors throughout.

Arriving on the landing of the upstairs addition, the space opens out to a mezzanine-style library/ sitting room. The bedrooms to the addition feature matte black powder-coated windows and custom joinery. Both the ensuite and second bathroom employ a light and bright palette of fresh white with gun metal grey accents. A mixture of kit kat and subway wall tiles were carefully set out and meticulously laid by our tiler, making a modern statement.
